BHAWAI FOLK DANCE
A popular and difficult artistic folk dance, Bhawai Dance can only be performed by skilled
Rajasthani folk dancers. Basically, this dance involves women performers balancing eight to nine brass
pots on their heads and dancing simultaneously. This performance also involves balancing oneself
(together with the pots) on unstable and narrow objects like a brass plate, glass bottle etc. The brass
pots are sometimes substituted by a greater number of earthen pots, making it more difficult. The men
from the communities offer music to the performance and usually a melodious Rajasthani folk song is sung
by them, adding to the beauty of the performance.
